North West TD says European intervention would help ease integration fears over a United Ireland
A Leitrim TD has claimed that there is too much emphasis being placed on what the economic consequence would be for the Republic’s economy in the event of a United Ireland being carried in a referendum. Sinn Fein Deputy, Martin Kenny, was responding to comments from former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar where he said that he would “forego two years of economic growth” for the unification of Ireland. There is particular concern locally on how such a move would impact the respective economies either side of the border. Speaking to Ocean FM Deputy Kenny says that European intervention would address any immediate integration concerns. He says since Brexit many people living in Norther Ireland regardless of religion believes would be open to the of unification for economic reasons.
