Not By Works of Righteousness Which We Have Done

from NPPBC's Media Ministry

Salvation isn’t based upon the things that you’ve got or done. When a person is young they often think about “why me?”. As one gets older we begin to think differently. When one is lost and God speaks to you, up until that point you have no idea what righteousness is or what true love is. God doesn’t save based on deserving it but based upon His goodness. Once a person is saved then they obtain a hope for eternal life in Heaven. God’s love and His love alone is what keeps you and stops everything from taking salvation away. That split second that God knocks on your heart’s door is the moment you feel true love. A rich man wanted to know how to be saved and said he had done everything as he was supposed to do. However, Jesus told him to sell everything he had and give it to the poor. The rich man couldn’t do it. The basis of the story was that one must die out to their flesh, the earthly sin in order to be saved. There isn’t a single person alive who is perfect and holy. Everyone falls short in their sins every second. The Bible even says that if a person is sinless then they are a liar. Jesus was holy and perfect and could have at any moment taken out the soldiers and anyone else who came against Him. Just the same as Jesus told the disciples when they pointed out that people should be wiped out. Jesus told them no, and pointed out their sin of malice and hatred. We do the same as the disciples when we think that God should wipe out the government and start over because we don’t agree with them or what they do. We should be praying for them and asking God to do what He needs to do because He’s already got a plan. He isn’t surprised by anything that takes place that certainly surprises us. Romans 2:11; the encouragement is to do good works. Others see these works and if we do them for God then they will see God in those works. One can certainly fool another person and make them think you’re saved. You can go through all of the “godly” motions and proclaim you’re saved. However, God knows the truth and that is all that matters in the end. You can’t fool God. Two commandments God gave us, love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as you love yourself. One can say they love God but when it comes to the neighbor, we might have an issue. Check yourself. If this is you then you might not have God in your heart, saved like you think you are. Ask God to inspect your soul.
