Nothing So Important

Summary

Allow me to be as direct and blunt with you as I am with myself on this point: nothing is to be so important and precious to you as the next thing Jesus tells you to do. Alright, but we might ask, is not Jesus Himself that ultimate preciousness? For sure, he is the paradigm of all that is important or precious in all creation — he is self-giving Life itself. However, that truth does not become part of our experience except upon friendship with him. So in a sense, there is no use talking about how supremely important Jesus is if we are ignoring the small gate and narrow path upon which we alone experience something of how important he is. This path is exceedingly narrow if for no other reason than that there is no other. Either I am listening to him or I am not, and literally everything I value in life remains or disintegrates based on that.
