Ocean FM mourns passing of presenter Joe Shannon

The death has taken place this morning of popular celebrity chef, Joe Shannon. Joe had presented the Joe and Georgie Unplugged Show here on Ocean FM since last summer. He passed away after a short illness. His outgoing nature and involvement in many organisations made him one of the best known personalities in the North West region and he was a tireless campaigner for cancer charities and other charities since his diagnosis with cancer some years ago. In a statement today, management at Ocean FM said staff were deeply saddened by Joe's passing - he had been a well-liked member of the broadcast team, and his show was hugely popular with listeners. A former Executive Chef at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sligo, Joe had also embarked on a cancer Recovery Tour with his colleague, Georgie Gorman, in recent years, in which he travelled throughout the country. In an interview with the North West Today show last year, Joe said he felt he has been a lucky man throughout his life, despite his cancer diagnosis......
