Organization representing hundreds of CMPD officers considers 'no confidence' vote against chief
from WCNC Charlotte To Go · host WCNC Charlotte
Just days after the City of Charlotte agreed on a potential settlement with the chief of police, the organization that represents more than 1,700 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officers is considering taking a vote of no confidence against Chief Johnny Jennings. The city's reported closed-door settlement came in response to a war former Council member Tariq Bokhari waged against the chief over his initial refusal to let patrol officers wear outer carrier vests. As WCNC Charlotte reported Wednesday night, that war included strongly worded text messages to the chief from Bokhari that said he'd push for his termination and cripple his legacy. The Fraternal Order of Police sent an email to its members to survey their thoughts, asking them whether they support moving forward with a symbolic vote of no confidence against the chief. The survey also gives them the option to share additional information supporting their response. Simply put, the survey is a preliminary vote to better understand the full membership's thoughts on the issue before formally taking action.Read more: https://www.wcnc.com/article/news/politics/fraternal-order-of-police-moving-forward-no-confidence-vote-cmpd-chief-johnny-jennings/275-a75f7333-83a6-4db3-954f-4c8ff2c3f7ddWCNC Charlotte To Go is a daily news and weather podcast you can listen to so you can start your day with news that impacts you from the team at WCNC Charlotte.
