What this episode covers
Like every other nation locked in the global struggle in 1944 the United States had become a warfare state. Unlike the people of almost every other nation that had mobilized for war however the average American suffered very little. Unlike the populations of the United Kingdom, Japan, the Soviet Union, or any other Eurasion country the civil population of the United States was not subject to marauding enemy armies or aerial bombardment or even significant shortages of goods. The isolation provided by the Atlantic and Pacific oceans along with the great bounty of the American interior meant few were ever really under threat of enemy action or privation.
