As the opening Chorus tells us, the play "begins in the middle" of the epic conflict, and counterpoints the drama of battle with the romance of the title characters. Just as Agamemnon and his Greek forces (particularly the smooth-tongued Ulysses) attempt to woo the invincible Achilles to resume fighting on their side, the Trojan go-between Pandarus tries to bring together Troilus, a son of King Priam, with his niece, the lovely Cressida. Love, jealousy, friendship, conjugal fidelity, maternal tenderness, anger, and despair are all portrayed with skillful touches; and if the language is that of the French Court of the seventeenth century, the natural emotions of the human heart, the same in all ages, show themselves plainly under the mask of conventional mannerism - Summary by The TranslatorCast list:Andromache, widow of Hector, Captive of Pyrrhus: SoniaPyrrhus, Son of Achilles, King of Epirus: Matthew ReeceOrestes, Son of Agamemnon: Richard JasperingHermione, Daughter of Helen, betrothed to Pyrrhus: <a href="https://librivox. Trojan Women (Murray Translation) Euripides In Euripides haunting play, we delve into the harrowing aftermath of Troys fall, where the citys women grapple with the loss of their husbands and the looming threat of enslavement. The narrative opens with a divine council between Athena and Poseidon, who plot revenge against the Greek forces for their complicity in Ajax the Lessers heinous act of dragging Cassandra from Athenas sanctuary. The unfolding tragedy reveals the depths of suffering endured by the Trojan women, as they confront further calamities while the Greeks coldly distribute their fates. This poignant translation by Gilbert Murray, published in 1915, brings to life the profound grief and resilience of these women.
