Phillies & Baseball Analytics (PST Show #315)

from The Philadelphia Sports Table | Philly Sports News & Views · host The Philadelphia Sports Table

As the Phillies are first in the NL East and are distinguishing themselves throughout the National League, we know how important the use of analytics has been to get them to this point. As baseball has made dramatic shifts over the years to incorporate more data and analytical decision-making on and off the field, we wanted to dive into that subject this week. Mark Simon, writer and contributor at Sports Info Solutions and host of the Sports Info Solutions podcast, joined us for a deep dive into baseball and Phillies analytics. It was a great interview! But first, we discussed how the Phillies should deal with the Odubel Herrera domestic violence situation and what we can expect from reliever J.D. Hammer who was recently called up from Lehigh Valley. (2:10)From there we gave our thoughts on what will be happening for the teams playing in the NBA Championship and NHL Stanley Cup Finals. (11:00)We then talked about Flyers center Nolan Patrick's young career and how he needs to have a bounce-back season in 2019-2020. (17:55)This week on the Highbrow Segment, we dove into the latest regarding the NCAA as the college basketball trial recently ended. How can this organization shift public perception about their practices and the kind of oversight they have within the college athletic world? (23:45)Then on the Lowbrow Segment, we talked about our worst fan-based memories at a Philly sports event. (36:40)What we're throwing down on the Table is an in-depth interview with Mark Simon from Sports Info Solutions. Details, details, details. That's what Mark gave us during this interview as we opened up the can on how he got involved in sports analytics years ago, and how MLB and the Phillies utilize this data. It's a great interview for all you baseball fans! (45:05)
