This week on The Chrome Cast, we spend almost all of our time in Pixel world. With the new leaks out there showing off the Pixel Fold in the latest Android 12L Beta (via the SIM card insertion help page), we’ve gone from just hoping that Google is building a foldable Pixel to feeling quite confident that not only is that still happening, but could be on the way with a key differentiator from the existing Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. For the second half of the show, we chat about the growing discontent surrounding the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. With the new flagship phones and their brand-new Tensor SoC and Samsung modem, we’re getting quite a few bugs. Part of that is the hardware, and part of it is Android 12, but the combination is proving to be a bit of a mess of late. With no update in sight until the end of January, you basically have a swath of users on the latest, greatest Pixel with over 3 months of waiting for an update to fix the launch day bugs. It’s not good. As a wrap up on a much lighter note, we talk through our hands-on time with the new Acer Chromebook Spin 513 with the new MediaTek Kompanio 1380 on the inside. With high end components like a high-res, 3:2 QHD screen, this device is impressive even in this pre-production state. This one has us very excited about the potential of ARM in Chromebooks in 2022. The Lipstick Pickup Podcast with Emily Vardaman Walters Emily Vardaman Walters A lipstick pickup is an electric guitar pickup with a captivating sound and appearance that has a devoted cult following that grows with each passing year. True to their name, they were originally chrome lipstick tubes stuffed with magnets and electronics that were the inspired invention of Nathan Daniel, founder of Danelectro. Born from his genius instinct for innovation as well as his devotion to a "rigid cost control" philosophy, they were an essential component of the guitars that helped stoke an affordable rock-n-roll revolution. The Lipstick Pickup Podcast is an amateur (but very inspired), unscripted, rarely edited conversation devoted to the entirety of the subject. Hosted by Emily Vardaman Walters, The Lipstick Pickup Podcast is a fan-friendly primer on the subject of Danelectro guitars and their impact on the history of popular music of all genres.  Looking for a Chrome extension to find contact details? Crome Yellow by Aldous Huxley (1894 - 1963) LibriVox Crome Yellow, published in 1921 was Aldous Huxley’s first novel. In it he satirizes the fads and fashions of the time. It is the witty story of a house party at ‘Crome’ where there is a gathering of bright young things. We hear some of the history of the house from Henry Wimbush, its owner and self appointed historian; Apocalypse is prophesied, virginity is lost, and inspirational aphorisms are gained in a trance. Our hero, Denis, tries to capture it all in poetry and is disappointed in love. The author, Aldous Huxley, was born in 1894 and began writing poetry and short stories in his early twenties; this was his first novel and established his literary reputation.
