Politics of Tarot with Alana Davenport

from In Search of Tarot · host In Search of Tarot

My guest today is Alana Davenport, who brings over 20 years of Tarot practice and social justice activism experience to writing about Tarot. Alana is a full-time parent of two young children and holds an interdisciplinary Master's Degree in Humanities & Social Thought from New York University, a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Maryland, and all of the accompanying debt. Alana’s next project is writing a book on reading Tarot politically, based on content from her/their Instagram account @politicsoftarot. IN THIS CONVERSATION Alana and I discuss her work in social activism and how she allows her strong sense of justice to inform her approach to the cards. We also hone in on Three of Swords as an ally in the often painful work of unlearning, and speak at length about my business name "Man of the Cards" and why I have chosen to keep it even after my own journey with gender and identity. Alana’s new Tarot & Politics zine will be available for purchase by donation via @politicsoftarot beginning September 24. I am honored to be one of the featured writers in this first edition, alongside many other brilliant tarot readers, teachers, and thinkers.
