Problem #11: Why are single Black fathers "Ain't shit" ?? Feat Bolade’s rant [Father's Day Special]

from I Got Problems! · host Sandra & Co.

There are stereotypes that black children born in a one parent household or to unmarried parents must be fatherless and the reality is having unmarried parents does not make a child fatherless. It is unfair to stigmatize black men as being the only men having challenges as fathers and to assume most black fathers get placed on child support for being less than supporting. Statistics show that close to 70% of all births to black mothers are out of wedlock, giving rise to the common stereotype that portrays black fathers as being largely absent from their families. Yet while black fathers are less likely to marry their child's mother, many continue to parent through cohabitation and visitation, providing caretaking, financial, and other forms support.  Resources: The best kept secret: single black fathers, book written by Roberta L.
