Providing Resources & Help for Diverse Populations

from The State of Health Care Podcast · host Tracy Karas

TW: There is mention of sexual trauma in treatment settings. Please listen with care.Today, I have 2 guests with me on the show, both Physical Therapists whose focus is working with those in the queer community. Sam Arrow, owner of Arrow Physical Therapy, and Rebecca Patton, owner of Pelvic Physical Therapists, both who are locally based in Phoenix, AZ. In an open and supportive conversation, Sam and Rebecca walk us through their journeys of becoming PTs, and specifically wanting to work with the queer community, which are by and large very underserved, many without care, and many without gender affirming care.We discuss navigating the health care system while finding resources that best align with each individual, and fighting for your healthcare (of course), but also pausing before you dive into treatments and plans. We get into the details about the importance of your nervous system, identifying panic attacks that could be manifesting as physical symptoms, and the theory of how connective tissue disorder might play a strong hand in neurodivergence, POTS, gastrointestinal issues, and more. It's an inspiring and informative episode, please take a listen.
