Psalm 10 - "But God Does See!"

In Matthew 24:37-39, Jesus said, “But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.” What was it like in the days of Noah? Genesis 6:5-6 and 11, tells us what it was like. “Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. …The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.” People in Noah’s day were living as if there was no God and no future judgement. When God is expelled and ignored and His light of holiness and righteousness is “turned off”, darkness and wickedness immediately takes its place. Man’s imaginations are evil continually and set on doing evil.  This brings corruption as a result of their greed, deceit, and lustful desires, which then produces a world full of violence. My friend, this describes the very days in which we are living. God is a God of order and peace! But where there is no respect for God and His presence is denied, then there will be confusion, chaos and anarchy. There will be no respect for the law and for those who are in authority. People will live with no real purpose in life and experience angry, worry and fear as they try to drown out their guilt and bitterness with sensual pleasures, drugs and alcohol. This happens in every culture and society that forgets the God Who created them! In Psalm 10, David is describing the wicked people of his day and complaining to God about how it seems they are getting by with their pride, arrogance, profanity, greed, lust and vain living. Today, many of us might be asking the same questions that David was asking in this chapter. The psalmist describes these wicked people, what they do, and why they do it. He gives four statements that express what they believe, because what they believe determines how they behave. “There is no God" (vv. 2-4). Believing this lie frees the wicked to do whatever they please, for they become their own god. "I shall not be moved"(vv. 5-7). This arrogant attitude comes from an ignorance of the laws of God, because unconverted people have no understanding of the Word of God or the ways of God (1 Cor. 2:10-16). Because God is longsuffering, they think they're getting away with their sins (Eccl. 8:11). Peace and prosperity give them a false sense of security that will end very suddenly. "God doesn't see me"(vv. 8-11). Like ferocious lions, wicked people hide and watch for opportunities to pounce on the helpless prey, and like hunters or fishermen, they catch their prey in their nets. They are sure that the law won't catch up with them or the Lord notice what they do. "God will not judge me"(vv. 12-13). At this point, the psalmist cries out to God for help, and he uses three different names for God: Jehovah, the God of the covenant, and El and Elohim, the God of power. The wicked boast that God will not investigate their sins or judge them, but God says, "Be sure your sin will find you out" (Num. 32:23). Read those statements again and see if they don't express the outlook of lost sinners today. In verse 14 we are reminded, “But God does see…”! And He hears the cry of the helpless, the humble, the fatherless and the oppressed.  My friend, you can trust Him to see and hear your plea for justice and mercy today! God Bless!
