The history behind a popular song, composed in 1961-62 by Peterr Yarrow, who based the lyrics on a poem written by Leonard Lipton in 1959. The song, when completed, was recorded in 1962 by Peter, Paul & Mary... and released in 1963 to become an irresistable popular success. A triunph for the artists and the poets/authors as well.
