On this episode of Quick 5 co-hosts Nick Gaich and Kylie McLaughlin sat down with Mellea McLaughlin, Chairperson for the Santa Clara County Veterans Commission, and Mary Cortani, CEO and Founder of Operation Freedom Paws. Both Mellea and Mary are Veterans who now spend their time working to help and advocate for their fellow veterans. We talked with them about Women Veterans Day, celebrated every year on June 12th, and about the experience of being a woman in the service. They take us through their experience in the military and share some of the positive things it added to their lives as well as some of the struggles that many women face while serving and once they become veterans. We also learn about what they do now in their capacities as veterans commissioner and CEO of a company helping veterans everyday. Listen to learn more about how representation and recognition of women veterans makes all the difference for access to services and programs.
