Racial Capitalism and Fascism in America
from Examination of Consciousness · host Alice
Welcome back to Examination of Consciousness! I've got a good one for you today. My guest lent me THREE HOURS of his time to clear up some economic misconceptions, critically investigate capitalism, and to explain why the model in Appalachia is so important to him. We just scratch the surface in part one of this series. In this episode, my guest discusses how his childhood and college experiences informed his perspective. He explains how Appalachia’s history of natural resource extraction turned the region into a kind of “frontier state”—a place uniquely suited for the organic development of a communal model. He also touches on the fact that race creation is an extremely social (as opposed to based in science/biology) process that is heavily influenced and exacerbated by capitalism. Finally, he discusses some theory, including the concept of the "Base and Superstructure."Sources:Liberal vs Leftist:https://www.lawrentian.com/archives/1022577Gulag:https://www.history.com/articles/gulagBase and Superstructure:https://www.ijhssi.org/papers/v2(3)/version-1/L0203017577.pdfBook Recommendations: On the Origin of Capitalism by Ellen Meiksins Woodhttps://cominsitu.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/ellen-meiksins-wood-the-origin-of-capital-a-longer-view.pdfBlack Marxism by Cedric Robinsonhttps://uncpress.org/9781469663722/black-marxism-revised-and-updated-third-edition/
