Rain Relief, But Drought Not Fully Broken
from Charlotte News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
Seven straight days of rain have brought welcome relief to drought-stricken Carolinas, but it’s not enough to fully break the nine-month dry spell. While mountains and parts of Chester and Lancaster counties soaked up over six inches, Charlotte saw 1.5 to 3 inches — enough to revive gardens and lakes, but still far short of recovery. We’re now at our wettest since early August and the first above-average rainfall month since last August, but with still over six inches missing this year, we’re still playing catch-up. An official drought update Thursday may show improvement — maybe even out of the worst categories — but sustained above-average rain over weeks, not days, is needed to truly restore normalcy.
