    Recovering from Madness

    Release Date: 11/18/2020

Description: Episode 6 of an exclusive 6-episode series. In case you missed it:  In episode 5 of this series, I spoke with my father, a man I admire and respect but we are at odds in our views. It's been difficult to reconcile who he is as a father with who he supports politically. So in today's episode, this therapist goes to therapy. I turn to Dr. Erica Ellis, a licensed clinical psychologist and my mentor. We recorded this episode one week post-election and it feels like a brave new world. But it's also just the beginning in this season of healing. We can't just bypass the pain, we've got to go through it. I don't know about you, but after four years of tension with it feeling as if our world is on the brink of disaster, I have some real grief to work through. Maybe you do too. This episode is meant to help anyone who may relate to take the first steps forward, however uneasy they may be.  So with that, I invite you to join us for a little family therapy .Guest: Dr. Erica Ellis, PSYD, CMT is a licensed clinical psychologist and certified massage therapist with over ten years of clinical experience in private, residential, and intensive outpatient settings. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and her Doctorate of Psychology from Alliant-California School of Professional Psychology, where her work focused on the intersection between psychological and physiological health. She has trained in traditional psychodynamic therapy as well as cutting edge somatic modalities including mindfulness meditation, Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Neural Manipulation, and Visceral Manipulation.  Dr. Ellis is the founder of Nervous System Regulation, a mind-body touch therapy approach and Integrative Wellness Psychology, an interdisciplinary treatment model that specialize in bridging the brain, mind, body, and spirit.  She is also the Program Director for the Integrative Wellness Program at Community West Treatment in Los Angeles, CA.Dr. Ellis has worked in private practice in both Paris, France and Los Angeles, CA and her current practice includes adults, teens, and couples with a broad range of issues such as ADHD and executive function impairments, stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, psychosomatic illness, physical pains, and concerns related to identity, culture, expatriation, relationships, phase of life, empowerment, and authenticity. In addition to her practice, Dr. Ellis is adjunct faculty at Pepperdine University-Graduate School of Education and Psychology and Antioch University’s Master of Psychology Program.  She was also the Somatic Psychology Department Lead Faculty and Coordinator of Dissertations and Research and Part-Time Faculty in the Applied Clinical Department at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Mentioned: Seduced: Inside the NXIVM CultProduced by: Morgan MacDougall Productions

    Recovering from gym injury...

    Release Date: 09/11/2021

Description: Injuries are part of the process. Obviously it sucks when you look forward to lifting weights but you physically can't. The best we can do is try to prevent injuries with stretching etc. I'm 5' 10 and weigh 145 lbs and I've been cutting calories for the last 5 weeks. I started at about 156.4 lbs and have dropped 11 lbs with a cut of around 500 calories a day. I recently injured my thumb and I felt popping in my thigh so I took some time off to recover. Ive been running a Bulgarian inspired program for the last 4.5 months and it has got me to the strongest I have ever been. I have been focused mainly on squats and bench and my PRs shot up about 95 lbs on squat and 75 lbs on bench. Now with other activities I'm focused on I feel like the bulgarian program is taxing on my body because I started training martial arts and I already walk a lot. I still want to incorporate some bulgarian inspired principles but Im going start training a 3 day split(chest/legs/back) for about 5-6 days. I'm going start deadlifting again and on the days I don't deadlift Im going squat more. Injuries suck but we got to recover, heal, adapt and get back to work. I love this grind.
