Reflection in words & music – Sunday 29th June 2025

from St Bride's Church, Fleet Street · host St Bride's Church, Fleet Street

Join The Revd Canon Dr Alison Joyce, Rector of St Bride's, and St Bride's Choir for this week's reflection in words and music. After the reading from Luke's Gospel, Alison reflects on when Jesus sent out his followers to proclaim his Kingdom as "lambs in the midst of wolves", and wryly recalls Gimli the Dwarf's line from The Lord of the Rings, "Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for?" The choir sings William Walton's "Set me as a seal" written for the wedding of the son of his lover, Lady Alice Wimbourne. It is surely one of the most perfect presents a newly married couple could receive. We close with another wedding favourite, the hymn "Praise, my soul, the King of heaven."
