RELATIONS: Who Am I? An Interview with Antoinette Harrell In this first episode, I interview activist, historian, and genealogist Antoinette Harrell. Harrell's work has included documenting the stories of people trapped in the illegal peonage system, a form of modern-day slavery. Her work on this subject has been highlighted in VICE and People magazines, as well as in many national and international publications and news and radio programs. Harrell has also made significant contributions to African American women’s history, activism, and race relations stemming from her genealogy research. She produces the genealogical television program Nurturing Our Roots and has written several books including Department of Justice: Slavery, Involuntary Servitude and Peonage (2014), Images of America: African Americans in Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parishes (2019) and Nurturing My Family Tree: Genealogy for Children (2010). In 2003, Harrell was appointed Honorary Assistant Attorney General for the state of Louisiana for her work in the study of genealogy.
