Reproductive Rights, Borders and Mess the West
from The SUWA Show - Squatters and Unwaged Workers Airwaves · host Debbie from Radical Women, and Poppy from Mess the West
Recently anti-choicers Right to Life Australia held a number of forums around the country as part of their campaign against abortion. They invited Troy Newman from Operation Rescue, a notorious anti-choice group from the USA which has defended violent action against clinics and doctors. After a public outcry, and a campaign from some feminist and activist groups, the Federal Government denied Troy Newman a visa.We interview Debbie from Radical Women about the campaign for Reproductive rights, the snap action against the melbourne forum, about mobilising against the anti-choice movement, and the problems involved with asking the state to deny someone (even a political opponent) a visa. In the interview we also talk about the links between the Christian Right, and the Nationalist and Fascist movements we currently have in Australia, and the need to build a political movement against both of these. We also have a short interview with Poppy, one of the organisers of the Mess the West DIY festival thats happening later this month in Footscray, a four day festival celebrating DIY culture and resistance, detailing some of the workshops and other events that are happening at the festival.
