Rhode Island Weather 3/9 Midday - 21° Above Normal

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good afternoon. Rhode Island. I'm Michael Mosby. Step outside right now and you'll feel that damp chill. 37 degrees with fog hugging the ground. But here's the twist — this is the coldest it'll be all day. By this afternoon, we're soaring to 67 degrees. That's 21 degrees above normal for early March, folks. Spring is making a serious statement. The fog burns off by mid-morning as sunshine takes over. Providence hits 67 around 3 P.M. With light south winds. Down along Narragansett Bay, that ocean influence keeps you cooler — topping out at 54 degrees with mostly sunny skies. Still pleasant, just not the warmth inland sees. Tonight, temperatures drop back to the mid-30s under mostly clear skies. Patchy fog develops again after midnight, especially near the coast. Tuesday delivers even more warmth — near record territory. Providence climbs to 69 degrees under full sunshine. Morning fog clears by 10 A.M. The Bay stays cooler at 56, but that's still well above normal. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. And you can feel it. Wednesday brings clouds and a slight chance of rain as temperatures ease back to the 50s. Thursday turns unsettled — rain likely with gusty winds and highs in the mid-50s. Behind that system, cold air crashes back in. Thursday night could see a brief changeover to snow before clearing. Friday stays chilly in the low 40s with a slight chance of mixed precipitation. The weekend looks unsettled with temperatures bouncing between the mid-40s and upper 30s, plus more chances for rain and snow showers. Enjoy this remarkable warmth today and tomorrow — winter's not done yet. See you this evening.
