Rhode Island Weather March 3 Evening - 28° Above Normal
from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast
Good evening. Rhode Island. I'm Jack O'Malley. That light freezing rain falling right now? It's adding a glaze to the inch of snow that fell overnight, when temperatures plunged to 28 degrees. Classic March mischief — a little winter, a little spring, all in one messy package. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for northwest Providence County until 7 A.M. Wednesday. In the next 24 hours. Here's how today plays out. The Providence area sits at 32 degrees right now. Rain moves in around 7 P.M. and continues overnight, mixing with a brief period of freezing rain before 10 P.M. Low tonight holds right at 32 degrees. Down at Narragansett Bay, you're at 33 degrees with rain starting a bit earlier. Expect a quarter to half an inch of rainfall there. Wednesday brings relief. Patchy fog early, then mostly sunny skies. Highs reach 46 degrees — right where we should be for early March. Enjoy it. Thursday and Friday turn wet again. Rain likely both days with highs in the low 40s. Nothing dramatic, just a chilly, raw soaker. But here's the payoff. Saturday and Sunday, temperatures surge into the mid-50s. Monday could hit 60 degrees. That's 28 degrees to 28 degrees above normal. The snowpack won't stand a chance. One more thing — tonight's full moon rises at sunset. If clouds break, it'll be lighting up those puddles by tomorrow night. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
