Rhode Island Weather March 3 Midday - Winter Weather Advisory

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good afternoon. Rhode Island. I'm Jack O'Malley. Folks, a warm front is sliding north across Rhode Island right now. And it's causing trouble. Warm air is riding up and over cold air still parked at the surface. That collision is why you're hearing freezing rain tick against your windows. We picked up just over an inch of snow overnight. Temperatures bottomed out at 28 degrees before dawn. Now we're stuck in that nasty in between zone. In the next 24 hours., A Winter Weather Advisory holds for northwest Rhode Island until 7 A.M. Wednesday. Untreated roads and sidewalks will be slick tonight. That's not a maybe. Providence, you'll want to watch for freezing rain mixing with plain rain before 10 P.M. After that, temperatures nudge above 32 degrees and it all goes to rain. Patchy fog rolls in. Not pretty, but not dangerous. Slide south toward Narragansett Bay and you're already past the icy stuff. Plain rain down there. South winds at 3 to 9 miles an hour keeping temps at 33 degrees. A quarter to half an inch of rain by morning. Now Wednesday. Wednesday is the reward. Patchy fog burns off early, then mostly sunny skies push through. Highs hit 46 degrees. That's textbook early March. We're also gaining nearly three minutes of daylight. You can feel the season turning. Thursday gets messy again. Rain arrives late morning, then transitions to a wintry mix Thursday night. Friday stays gray and stuck in the upper 30s. But the real story? The weekend. Highs climb into the 50s Saturday. Sunday and Monday could flirt with 60 degrees. That leftover snow is going to vanish fast. One more thing. Tonight's full moon rises right at sunset. If those clouds break even briefly, it'll light up the ice on every branch like a chandelier. Worth a glance out the window. I'll be watching the ice situation all night. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
