from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast
Good evening. Rhode Island. I'm Aaron Jolly. That inch and a half of snow overnight was just the opening act. The real story this morning. Is black ice. Rain and freezing rain mixed in while you slept. And with temperatures sitting right at the freezing mark, untreated surfaces are essentially an ice rink. The Winter Weather Advisory runs until 7 A.M. For northwest Providence County. You'll want to give yourself extra time if you're heading out early. In the next 24 hours. But here's the reward. Fog lifts by 9 A.M. and then we see sunshine. Providence climbs to 54 degrees this afternoon — that's 24 degrees above normal for early March. Down at Narragansett Bay, a cool easterly breeze keeps highs closer to 47 degrees. Either way, a pleasant turn after this messy morning. Tonight turns cold again under mostly cloudy skies. Lows drop to 24 degrees in Providence, 25 at the Bay. Patchy fog may redevelop late. Thursday brings rain back into the picture. A coin flip's chance of showers, mainly in the afternoon and evening. Highs only reach 39 degrees. That rain continues Thursday night and into Friday morning, with a chilly northeast wind making it feel raw. The weekend? A completely different story. Highs surge into the 50s Saturday and Sunday. By Monday and Tuesday, we could touch 60 degrees. That standing snow won't last long. If clouds cooperate tonight, that full moon rising at sunset should be a stunner. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Take care That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
