Rhode Island Weather March 4 Morning - 24° Above Normal
from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast
Good morning. Rhode Island. I'm Aaron Jolly. We're waking up to a classic Rhode Island trick. That inch and a half of snow looks innocent enough, but there's a hidden layer of ice underneath. Watch your first step this morning — that black ice is silent and slick. But don't worry, the weather gods are about to flip the switch. In the next 24 hours. By 9 A.M., the fog burns off and the sun takes over. Providence shoots up to 54 degrees this afternoon. That's a solid 24 degrees above normal for early March. Down by Narragansett Bay, you'll top out near 47 degrees with a light west breeze. The ocean keeps the coast a bit cooler, but it's still feeling like spring away from the water. Tonight, the thermometer takes a fast tumble. Inland areas drop to 24 degrees, while the Bay holds at 25 under mostly cloudy skies. Patchy fog creeps back in after 11 P.M. and if you're up late, the full moon will be lighting up that mist. Thursday changes the tune again. Clouds thicken and rain arrives by the afternoon. Highs struggle to reach 39 degrees. We're looking at more rain Thursday night into Friday morning, possibly mixing with freezing rain well inland before it ends Friday afternoon. The weekend looks brighter. Saturday hits 53 degrees with some afternoon showers possible. Sunday reaches 54. Then we get a real taste of spring. Monday hits 58. And Tuesday soars to 62 under sunny skies. The equinox is just two weeks away. And we're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every single day. Watch the ice this morning, but enjoy the sunshine this afternoon. I'll be tracking the rain for Thursday. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
