Rhode Island Weather March 5 Midday - Winter Weather Advisory

from The Rhode Island Weather Podcast

Good afternoon. Rhode Island. I'm Aaron Jolly. Step outside right now and you're looking at 37 degrees under a ceiling of gray. Not going anywhere anytime soon. In the next 24 hours. Rain develops late this morning and digs in. Providence sees showers becoming likely this afternoon with patches of fog creeping in. Highs barely budge — 38 degrees with a light east breeze around 5 to 9 miles an hour. Down along Narragansett Bay, same story. Rain and fog roll in before noon. Northeast winds pick up through the afternoon, gusting to 22 miles an hour. That's enough to remind you it's still early March. Tonight, the rain intensifies. We're talking a half to three quarters of an inch possible. Lows drop to 33 degrees. That damp chill will find every gap in your jacket. Now here's where it gets interesting. A Winter Weather Advisory kicks in at 5 P.M. For northwest Providence and western Kent counties. Temperatures could drop just enough for a wintry mix — sleet and freezing rain possible overnight into Friday morning. If you're in those areas, give yourself extra time tomorrow. Friday stays soggy. Rain tapers to drizzle by afternoon. Highs struggle to 36 degrees. But hold on. High pressure builds this weekend. Saturday climbs to 49. Sunday hits 55. By Tuesday? We could see 63 degrees. Spring is knocking — just two weeks until the equinox. Tonight's full moon won't punch through the clouds, but it's there, waiting for clearer skies. Stay dry out there. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
