Rogue – Trailer

from Rogue · host Jeff Gibbard

Amidst the hype and excitement of the more than a decade of superhero movies and the resurgence of comic books, it’s easy to think that superpowers are just some fictional fantasyland designed to live solely in the confines of our imaginations, but never in the real world. Imagine living in a world where no one is extraordinary. Everyone is plain, ordinary, and unremarkable. Sounds rather dull, and also unrealistic. In my experience, everyone has at least one unique ability. I’ll give you an example… Tell me if this sounds familiar: You have a friend, let’s say he can cook. After another amazing meal, you look over at him and exclaim: How on earth do you do this? That steak was cooked…perfectly. He looks at you and and helplessly exclaims: “I don’t know, I just do it. Lots of practice, I guess” Or what about that person you know in the office who has the Midas touch. You put her in a sales meeting and midway through the prospect is trying to convince you, and proceeds to sell YOU on why you should work with them. When you ask her about it, she just smirks and casually says: “I guess that’s just my superpower.” Too often we make the mistake of thinking that in the absence of superior strength and agility, or the ability to fly, that superpowers aren’t a real thing. The truth is that many of us, not only possess extraordinary abilities, but in many cases, either don’t realize it or we downplay the significance of the unique skill. In other cases, we know that we have a special talent or ability, but we fail to appreciate just how amazing it is, and can’t seem to figure out how to share our gift with the world. Rogue is a show dedicated to the meeting real life superheroes, understanding their superpower, hearing their origin story, and trying to figure out how to acquire their superpowers. I’m Jeff Gibbard, and prior to launching Rogue, I was the host of Shareable, a podcast about the impact of people and technology on our lives and careers. This show is the next step in understanding the impact of those two forces. On every episode, I bring on a guest who can do something extraordinary, and in 20-30 minutes , I pick their beautiful brain and try to see how it works and then I’ll share with you what I learned. Rogue is brought to you by the Shareable Podcast Network, which you can find at shareable.fm. Bone and Sickle Al Ridenour BONE AND SICKLE explores historical topics related to folklore and horror. With acerbic wit and a scholarly penchant for the grotesque, rogue folklorist Al Ridenour delves into a wide but carefully curated range of topics illustrated by stories from historical texts. Narratives are given dramatic readings by “Mrs. Karswell” (Sarah Chavez) backed by richly produced soundscapes blending original music, sound design and effects. The source books, though real enough, are said to be pulled from an imaginary library on Ridenour’s imaginary estate situated somewhere in the neighborhood of Charles Addams and Edward Gorey. Each episode begins with our hosts briefly discussing goings-on in this world before diving into the topic to be explored. Occasional alternate-format episodes are devoted to readings of classic horror stories or curious texts of antiquarian interest.
