Romans 13 - God Established Three Institutions

from Pastor Mike Impact Ministries · host Michael L Grooms

Today, Wednesday March 31 God Established Three Institutions Romans 13 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. The God of the Bible is a God of order! That is why He established the three institutions of the home, the government and the church. God knows that we need authorities in our lives for a host of reasons, and of course one of them is that we might live securely and peacefully in our homes and in our communities with each other. That’s why Paul instructed Timothy in 1 Timothy 2:1-2  “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” “If man will not rule himself he must be ruled.” This statement kept running through my mind as I was writing this blog. In other words, the more we self-govern ourselves by living disciplined lives of responsibility, with respect toward God, others and property, the less we need outside authority holding us accountable. The more we become irresponsible in our attitudes and actions, the more rules and regulations we will need to keep us from destroying others and ourselves. If we can teach our children to understand the principles of respecting God ordained authority, respecting the property of others and loving others, the less rules we will have to impose on them in their daily lives. We can either live by God’s principles of life found in His Word and enjoy freedom, or we can choose to live irresponsible selfish lives and find ourselves living in bondage. It appears that this is what this entire chapter of Romans 13 is teaching. I trust it will be a blessing to you as we study it together. God bless!
