Romans 5:20-21 - God's All Sufficient Grace

from Pastor Mike Impact Ministries · host Michael L Grooms

Today, Friday February 5 – Romans 5:20-21 These are the last verses that conclude the first two sections of Romans. Remember Romans 1-3 is about the problem of sin that separates us from God. Romans 4-5 is about how we as sinners, can be made righteous and be justified in the sight of a Holy God through the free gift of God in Jesus Christ and His shed blood and death. It is as if Paul wants to remind us that despite our sin and enmity against God, that He still is a gracious God and will have mercy upon us if we believe and trust Him. So “where sin abound grace did much more abound.” No matter how bad you think you might be and how great your sin is, God’s grace is greater! I could not help but think of the account of Noah in Genesis 6:5-12 “Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the LORD said, "I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them." But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD…… The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.” This is almost a description of the condition of mankind on earth today. But did you see, right in the middle of this passage, in the midst of all the sin, corruption, evil and violence, a man named Noah, found grace in the eyes of the Lord! Today, maybe you feel that you have so much sin and evil in your heart and life that you are beyond help and hope. Please, oh please, be reminded that God’s wonderful grace will reach down to you if you will only reach up to Him through His Son Jesus Christ! God’s throne is a “Throne of grace that we can come to, in the time of our desperation and hopelessness, where we can receive mercy and find grace to help in the time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)  God bless!
