Romans 6 - Freedom From the Slavery of Sin

from Pastor Mike Impact Ministries · host Michael L Grooms

Today, Monday February 8 – Romans 6 There are four “know” verses in Romans 6. The word “know” in the New Testament carries a deeper meaning than the way we often use it in our English language today.  It means to be deeply and intimately acquainted with someone or a truth in a very personal and real way. In Proverbs 9:10 we read: “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” This kind of “knowing” or “knowledge” is more than just an intellectual ascent to something. It means that you have taken in this truth as a spiritual reality and made it a part of your life! So, in Romans 6 we are to “know” that we were baptized or placed into Jesus Christ at the moment of our salvation. We “know” that because of that truth, we have experienced everything that happened to Jesus. When He was crucified and died, we were crucified and died with Him. When He was buried, we were buried with Him. When He resurrected from the grave, we were raised with Him. Because we are in Christ, sin and death no longer has any “dominion” or power over us because it has no “dominion” or power over Him! And the last “know” in this chapter in verse 16, is as a very practical one. We should now know, that if we yield the members of our bodies to sin, we will be a slave to sin. But if we yield our members in obedience to God’s Word, we are set free from the slavery of sin and can enjoy real freedom will become empowered to live holy and righteous lives.  We are really free to do the things that we ought to do! My friend, this is the Biblical truth and answer to the terrible addictions that are destroying our lives! May the Lord help us to apply it today!  God bless!
