Romans Part 25 – Romans 8:19- Verse 19-21 • “vs 19” – When we are clothed in glory – 2Cor 5:1-5, 1Cor 15:42-44. • “for the creature was made subject to vanity” – Gen 3:17-19, Psalm 39:4-6. • “not willingly, but by reason of him who subjected” – We did not choose to be subject to vanity, death, God is who judged when Adam sinned. But when you reject God all that’s left is vanity. • “in hope” – God did not leave us under the curse without hope – Gen 3:15, Gen 12:3, Col 1:27 • “Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption” When Christ appears – 1Cor 15:42. • “into the glorious liberty of the children of God” – Luke 20:36 Verse 22-23 • “Whole creation groaneth” – Because it is cursed -Gen 3:17, 5:29, • “together until now” – No one is exempt from the fallen state or the curse, even today. • “and not only they” – Christians also face suffering and are still in this “present evil world” – 2Cor 5:2, Gal 1:4 • “the firstfruits of the Spirit, we ourselves groan” – Paul being a Jew could possibly be referring to the Jews who were the first to receive the Spirit – Act 2:1-5, Heb 6:4-6. • “waiting for the adoption…. the redemption of our body” – In contrast to verse 15, here Paul says we are “waiting” for the adoption. The Spirit of adoption is thus different and here full adoption does not take place until our bodies are redeemed when Christ comes back. I. Adoption ~the placing of an adult son, placed in privilege, liberty, and duty of an adult son Verse 24-25 • “We are saved by hope” – Salvation does not always mean salvation from judgment of sin – Exo 14:13, 1Sam 11:13, Psalm 34:7. I. This verse is to be take. In context of verse 21-23 – The redemption of the body is the hope that we are saved from corruption. • “hope that is seen is not hope” – If you see what you are hoping for then you no longer hope for it because you have it. We are saved by grace through faith but we have hope in the resurrection whereby our salvation will be made complete. • Hope is not a wish “hope so”but is certain by faith. Heb 11:1 2Cor 4:14-15. • “we with patience wait for it” – Because we have not yet received our new bodies we are subject to wait for it. Verse 26-27 • “likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities” – in context our infirmities of waiting for the full Salvation. Not necessarily all weaknesses. • “for we know not what we should pray for” – 2Cor 12:8 – Do you pray for strength, removal of the suffering, victory over temptation, wisdom to make the right choice? Prayer in the age of grace has taken a different role than the “kingdom/New covenant” prayers. If Matthew 21:22 were true today and we donn’t know what to pray for than we would have a lot of issues. When the kingdom arrives the promise of Matthew 21:22 will once again take affect because – Heb 8:11. • “the Spirit itself maketh intercession” - This is how the Spirit helps our infirmities and why it is important to be in the Spirit and not the flesh. • “groanings that cannot be uttered” – The Spirit knows the real problem and makes intercession. • “he that searcheth the hearts” – Gen 6:5, 1Sam 16:7, Jer 17:10, Act 1:24, • “knoweth the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God” God knows the groaning that can’t be uttered because the Spirit makes intercession according to his will. Prayer should always align with the will of God. This is why God hears the Spirits prayers. • The more you know the will of God the more you will know what ye ought to pray.
