There are very few things that all successful people do. One of those things, however, is reading, because the ultra-successful crowd know that applied knowledge is power. In this interview, Ryan Lee, YouTuber, shares his origin story and teaches a strategy that you can use to learn how to read faster. Ryan was at a point in his life where he knew there had to be more so he started looking for it. Eventually he heard a quote that stood out to him, “in order for change to happen, you first must change.” This helped start him on his interest in personal development. He realized that he needed to change himself or his environment. In the last 2 years, he has dug into the personal development world. Ryan studied accounting at university, but he wasn't passionate about it. He graduated during the financial crisis while nobody was hiring. He couldn't find a job in accounting so he found an opportunity to go to South Korea to teach English for a year. This was a turning point for him. He met so many people who were completely different from him and those he had grown up with. He was able to start breaking out of his comfort zone. So he went back to Toronto to become a teacher and he was able to teach English in international schools in South Korea and China. During this time, Ryan began to learn how to read better. One of the skills he learned was that to retain more, you should teach what you have read. He began posting on his blog about what he was reading so that he could retain more of the book. Now he reads and finds the most important points from the book and shares it with his audience to help others save time and learn from these books. By focusing on acts of service and helping others, we can all achieve our dreams through whichever vehicle we decide to pursue them through.
