S1 E11. What prevents spiritual awakening?

from Road Least Travelled - A journey of the Soul · host Zhang Su Li

The ego. But your ego is not an enemy. It's not bad. It just needs to be re-educated, and it'll become your best ally. Here, I talk about how to understand your ego and persuade it to take a step back so your higher self can emerge. Don't kill the ego. You just need to tame it. Spiritual awakening is smoother when your ego works with your higher self. The ego was strengthened in childhood through 2 main causes: 1. excessive praise and malignant "love" in childhood. 2. childhood trauma and abuse. Many of us are in pain due to childhood traumas. These traumas strengthened our egos because the ego’s job is to protect us. As children, we couldn’t defend ourselves or physically fight back. So the ego acts like a body guard that keeps count of all the abuse we suffered, and promised us that it’ll try harder to protect us. The more harm that came to you as a child, the stronger your ego will become. As we grow up, and we’re not in danger anymore, the ego continues to strengthen itself out of habit. And we’re unaware of this happening. That’s where the danger lies. When the ego (Yang) becomes stronger than your higher self (Yin), spiritual awakening is unlikely to happen. Common characteristics of the ego: Control of people. Excessive need to control outcomes. Putting up a facade. Need to be liked. Taking everything personally. Easily wounded by people's opinions of us. Caring what others think of us. Need to be right. Website Instagram YouTube Facebook
