On the first anniversary of the reunification of the Korean people under one controlling government, the country’s first general election was held. And in a mild upset according to Western observers; Supreme Commander of the Korean Defense Force, General Choe Taun-dae, beat out his four competitors to be named the first Premier of the Unified Republic of Korea. Choe avoided a run-off election by grabbing fifty-two percent of the vote. In his former homeland, the Northern provinces; the general tallied ninety-seven percent of the vote total.
