S2E9 A Table Talk about Self-Driving Vehicles

from Getting to Third Space with Lamar and Tom · host From Klaus Haus Productions, featuring Tom Klaus and Lamar Roth

Welcome to Getting to Third Space with Lamar & Tom!  In this episode we introduce a new feature for the podcast: Table Talk. In the farm homes where we both grew up, the kitchen table was a central gathering place. Not only did we eat there, but we played games, entertained guests, and had conversations. Sometimes the conversations were light and fun. Sometimes they were serious conversations about differing ideas and perspectives on important issues. In this Table Talk, we will pose a question and then discuss it together, much in the same way we would as if we were sitting around one of our kitchen tables having a conversation.  The subjects being tackled in our Table Talks have no simple solution so don’t expect us to resolve anything. However, they allow us to both experience and model many of the concepts and tools we’ve been discussing in this podcast. Before issues can be resolved, we have to be able to talk about them in a civil conversation, especially when we disagree. We hope our Table Talks will inspire and guide you to have your own Table Talks on this and other subjects. .  Today we begin with the topic of self-driving vehicles and this question: Do we really need self-driving vehicles?  Learn more:  Links to items related to the show, for example:  Self-driving cars (Wikipedia): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-driving_car 10 Cars that are almost self-driving: https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/advice/cars-that-are-almost-self-driving  Six level of vehicle autonomy explained: https://www.synopsys.com/automotive/autonomous-driving-levels.html (Synopsis):  Autonomous vehicles factsheet (University of Michigan): https://css.umich.edu/publications/factsheets/mobility/autonomous-vehicles-factsheet Self-driving vehicles: An ethical overview (ResearchGate): https://www.researchgate.net/publication/353850286_Self-Driving_Vehicles-an_Ethical_Overview 5 moral dilemmas that self-driving cars face today (Forbes): https://www.forbes.com/sites/naveenjoshi/2022/08/05/5-moral-dilemmas-that-self-driving-cars-face-today/?sh=d70981a630d8  Ways to Hear and See Getting to Third Space Getting to Third Space is on all major audio podcast platforms including Spotify, iHeartRadio, Amazon Music, and Apple Podcasts.
