S3-79 IMPROVING OUR HORIZONTAL RELATIONSHIPS

Christianity describes a vertical relationship between Almighty God and lowly human beings. Yet that God/human relationship is manifested in our horizontal relationships with each other. Simply put, God expects us to share the mercy and grace we receive with those we encounter daily—even the unlovable.  We are nurtured and educated to regard ourselves relatively highly. Yet, God views us realistically: “The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins {the mind}, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings” (Jeremiah 17:9-10). Since the heart is deceitful, let us not deceive ourselves! Our righteousness is solely dependent upon God’s redemption plan. The only difference between a godly and ungodly person is the intervention of God’s mercy and grace.
