December signals the commencement of one of the most difficult challenges Christians face as the world entices us with the celebration of Christmas. It is an utterly pagan festival wrapped in the pretext of celebrating the birth of Jesus. Family and community expectations solicit our commitment to participation. The sights, sounds, smells, and gift-giving are hard to resist. This lesson deals with separating ourselves from the world. Little could the Apostle John have realized what we would face in our era when he wrote, "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." (1 John 2:15).
