God’s purpose in giving us ‘understanding’ is not to have it remain in our heads or intellect. The purpose of understanding is to enable us to live Godly lives guided by His law. Scripture tells us that Enoch walked with God, meaning he lived in a manner pleasing to God. Jesus said, “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt has lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted?” Then he said, “Ye are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:13-14). We cannot be the salt of the earth if our salt remains in the shaker. Effective evangelism does not start with a street crusade; it begins in our homes and with our neighbors. Moses commanded the Israelites to teach their children to observe His principles. “That thou might fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, ...” (Deuteronomy 6:1-2)
