S5, E1 Mal Wooldford and Charlotte Woolford | No Relation collaborative project

from Artists' Tales · host Heather Martin

Send us Fan MailThis episode features British filmmaker and photographer Mal Woolford and actor-educator Charlotte Woolford to discuss No Relation — their powerful collaborative project exploring ancestry, identity, and the legacy of transatlantic slavery.Though not family, their shared surname sparked a profound artistic journey. Using wet-plate collodion photography and archival research, No Relation confronts colonial history and reclaims representation. Their portraits subvert traditional power dynamics, featuring averted gazes, ancestral textures, and Demerara sugar from Guyana — a visceral link to the colonial past.Themes include historical accountability, the politics of portraiture, and photography’s role in exploring the legacy of colonialisation.Recorded on 14 August 2025.Follow the project on Instagram: @relationprojectPodcast details:Podcast email: [email protected]: www.artiststales.netInstagram: @artists_tales_podcastThreads: @artists_tales_podcast

TomCattt Thomas Patton From the beginning music has prowled with accordion lessons at a young age, followed by sax, blues harp and more recently piano, vocals, song writing and recording. Thomas Patton (AKA TomCattt) credits his mother for his stage name "TomCattt” as she was big on nick names for those she held close to her heart. TomCattt's music is best described as easy listening and sometimes retro, yet with a contemporary mix and feel. Accompanied by the creative tracks of a number of gifted musicians, his first album Hiiyaaaaaaaaaaa inspires imagination and finds a way to impress with a unique vocal sound, compelling harmony and gripping melody. The lyrical content is in fact a living reflection of this artists emotional journey that followed leaving love, finding a new love only to lose love once again. Hiiyaaaaaaaaaaa was released on June 1st, 2013 and all are invited to Soundcloud, Bandcamp, ReverbNation and Cdbaby where "A Question" is free download and to enjoy TomCattt's website tomcattt.com. Heroes and tales of Old Britain Lunapilot Beloved Britain celebrated in song. Some are humorous in intent, some merely in retrospect, some are just here because Wavlake doesn't have a "Random influences" category for albums and everyone's humour is different anyway! The subheading "Novelty" is probably a better fit as most of these songs you will only want to hear once! ;) Oh, all songs in this album were made using Udio.
