The believers in Sardis were barely clinging to life. This letter is unique because in every church we have studied thus far, Jesus has had at least something positive to say about each one. But, that is not the case with Sardis. Jesus had nothing good to say here. This letter is a sobering read, because it forces us to face the reality that what happened in Sardis could happen at any church, no matter their past victories.
