A new scheme is on the way which aims to support and enable the economic development of the inshore fishing fleet. Payments will be based on vessel length, and will be paid in two instalments, one on completion of each stage of the survey. Under the scheme, up to five thousand euro will be made available through An Bord Iascaigh Mhara next month. Speaking to Ocean FM news, Marine Minister Charlie McConalogue says that he understands the challenges fishermen are going through and is hopeful that this will in some way go towards alleviating the pressure that they're under:
