6/29/2024 ~ Joan Beets Memorial Service Sermon Full Service: https://youtube.com/live/umKx-IZ7hIQ Remembering Joan Beets Fellowship: https://youtu.be/UQ8fBn_8TOs Obituary Joan Beets was a loving mother and wife of 91 years. She was generous to a fault, opening her home to friends and family alike. Joan graduated from UCLA and took up the profession of teaching while enjoying the pastime sports of downhill skiing and tennis which she played up until her mid-seventies. She taught both in the public schools as well as at St. Patrick Episcopal School. Joan’s kitchen was always ready to prepare some sweet treat for anyone visiting her home and she always kept her orange cookie tin full of either homemade oatmeal-chocolate chip-raisin cookies or congo bars, both being made from recipes given to her by her sister-in-law Sidney. Joan loved to knit and sew. Over the years she made many outfits from whole cloth or custom modified outfits. She spent many a spare minute at home or waiting rooms crocheting Afghan blankets for her family and friends. Joan’s devotion to her husband, Bob, to her children, Rob and Barbara, as well as to her extended family was a constant part of her life. When she wasn’t cooking up plum and apricot jam or dinners of chicken cacciatore, or Aunt Sydney’s casserole, she was making trips down to San Diego county to take care of her sister Marjorie and niece Mary. She was involved in her church and helped to prepare different projects, such as “care packages for the troops.” We remember Joan’s home as a warm and comfortable place, where if not exactly pristine, was welcoming to all who spent time there. She left many of her home’s details and quirks to themselves as they “minded their own business”, while she spent time in the backyard watching the flowers grow and the birdies come to visit.
