SILENT NIGHT by Joseph Mohr and Franz Xaver Gruber- Lyrics read by Emiliano Martín
from Poesía con voz -Emiliano Martín- Podcasts
“Silent Night” (Stille Nacht) is an Austrian Christmas Carol that was born out of the mind of a catholic priest (Joseph Mohr), inspired by a cold Winter in Austria circa 1818. A couple of years later, the priest made contact with a school teacher and organist (Franz Xaver Gruber) produced a melody for the written words. The result was a wonderful song in the German language that has been translated into many languages around the World. The song was presented in public on a Christmas Eve Mass service of 1818. The melody was beautiful, still is, and the Lyrics in German spread all over Europe… and the United States, where the song arrived in 1839, and the English version was born. By now, it is well known by most people who celebrate Christmas. Emiliano Martín recites the poem “Silent Night.” All for the listeners and supporters of "Poesía con Voz."
