Sligo Councillor lobbies to keep turf fires burning
The importance of turf has been highlighted in Sligo following the mass power outages that took place after Storm Eowyn. Thousands of homes were left without electricity and heating, leading people to question the move away from fossil fuels. While for those in possession of turf, there are still concerns around the draft Air Pollution Bill and whether the fuel could be seized by local authorities. Sinn Fein Cllr Thomas Healy says there are financial incentives that the cutting of turf offers:
