There are renewed calls for the reopening of the Western Rail Corridor in a bid to improve access to third level education in the North West. It's widely thought that the reopening of the disused rail line along the North West coast would have far-reaching economic benefits.  Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Nessa Cosgrove says if ATU Sligo is to reach its full potential, then better connectivity linking other nearby towns has to be established:
