Sligo University Hospital still waiting to get almost 70 new beds
It's emerged that Sligo University Hospital is still waiting to receive almost 70 new beds - despite approval being given almost six months ago.The approval was given by Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, in an effort to combat overcrowding at the hospital, which has been consistently been among the busiest hospitals in Ireland in 2024.It's understood that 42 of these beds will be installed once the new wing of the hospital is built, with the remaining 27 going into an older part of the hospital.Speaking to Ocean FM News, Fianna Fáil councillor and General Election candidate, Edel McSharry, says the beds need to arrive sooner rather than later, but that the onus is on Saolta to sort the issue out.
