One of the podcast’s listeners sent audio feedback about Victoria and Aviation Insurance Resources, which offers insurance for the aviation community. All the agents there are actual pilots which allows them to provide help to pilots from a place of experience. Cruise Flight: Our main topic this week is an interview with John Zapp of the Flying Musicians. The organization is for people that have both a passion for flying and making music. An Air Force study found that Musicians are one of the most likely groups of people to finish and be successful in flight training because they are trained to be precise and to practice what they do, be it music or aviation. The Flying Musicians put on great shows that come off like jam sessions but like programming, they are magic! John is not a pilot by vocation but for pleasure, flying around the country for various events. He primarily plays guitar and vocals, but also dabbles in saxophone and keyboards. The Flying Musicians is a 501(c)3 educational organization, beginning in 2009. Their FMA Solo scholarship is for high school juniors and seniors nominated by their band teacher as someone who shows a passion for both music and aviation. In 2017, they expect to offer 4 scholarships. They provide money as well as materials to help get them to their solo flight, and then continues to support them in their pursuit of aviation and music. The organization accepts donations at their website and can work with donors to customize how their donation works, such as designating it for their particular state. There are many different membership opportunities even for those that are non-musicians but have a passion for music. The association participates in all kinds of career, aviation and music events such as education days and recruiting events. If you would like to find other members of the group, either locally or when traveling, they have a Google Map on their site. John also announced their new internship program for college upper class men. Sponsors: Thank you to our sponsor, Three Point Aviation Services.
