By his wounds you have been healed. For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.” 1 Peter 2:19-25 is the text for Today’s Sermon from Pastor Mech entitled, “Sought for Salvation and for Service.” Divine Service, Setting One ♫ HYMN “My Faith Looks Up to Thee” LSB 702, vs. 1-2 1  My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine. Now hear me while I pray; Take all my guilt away; O let me from this day Be wholly Thine! 2  May Thy rich grace impart Strength to my fainting heart; My zeal inspire! As Thou hast died for me, Oh, may my love to Thee Pure, warm, and changeless be, A living fire! INVOCATION, CONFESSION and DECLARATION of GRACE In the name of the Father and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 Amen. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth in not in us, But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9 Silence for reflection on God’s Word and self-reflection. Let us then confess our sins to God the Father. Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. Psalm 51:5; Romans 7:17; Ephesians 2:3 We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. Matthew 5:28; Matthew 25:45 We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. Matthew 22:37-40 We justly deserve Your present and eternal punishment.  For the sake of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.  Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in Your will and walk in Your ways to the glory of Your holy name. Amen. In the mercy of Almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for His sake God forgives us all our sins. To those who believe on His name He gives power to become the children of God, and bestows on them the Holy Spirit. May the Lord, who has begun this good work in us, bring it to completion in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. John 1:12; Philippians 1:6  Amen. INTROIT John 10 and Psalm 95 “I am the good shepherd,” [says the Lord.] “I know my own and my own know me, and I lay down my life for the sheep.” Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;      let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;      let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God,      and a great King above all gods. Oh come, let us worship and bow down;      let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
