In the last two months there has been a lot of drama in South Africa’s parliament, including a stream of outbursts during proceedings from the new party, the Economic Freedom Fighters and an attempt of a vote of no confidence in the Parliamentary Speaker Baleka Mbete from opposition parties. Last month Mbete, who is also in the high ranks of ruling party African National Congress, ordered EFF MPs to leave the proceedings after they started chanting “Pay Back the Money” at South African President Jacob Zuma. These recent skirmishes and outbursts have stirred a public debate on the manner in which proceedings should be conducted in parliament.
